- Infections of the urogenital system: chronic and acute pyelonephritis, cystitis, urethritis, prostatitis, epididymitis, including complicated and recurrent;
- Sexually transmitted infections: chlamydia, mycoplasmosis, gonorrhea, trichomoniasis, mixed infections;
- Infections of respiratory tracts – acute bronchitis, chronic bronchitis exacerbation, pneumonia, infected bronchiectasis, lung abscess, pleural empyema;
- Infections of ENT organs: sinusitis, external otitis and otitis media, mastoiditis;
- Skin, soft tissues, joint and bone infections;
- Infections of abdominal cavity: diarrhea caused by bacterial or protozoal microorganisms.
Dosage and Administration
The recommended dosage of Orcipol is 1 tablet orally administered 2 times per day. The tablet should be taken without chewing and with a sufficient quantity of liquid. it may be taken before meals or 2 hours after meals. The duration of treatment depends on the severity of the infection and may range from 5 to 10 days.
Precautions
Orcipol should not be used in patients with hypersensitivity to ciprofloxacin or ornidazole. It should also not be used during pregnancy or lactation or in infancy and adolescence younger than 15 years. Orcipol is contraindicated in patients with central nervous system diseases or acute neurological diseases. Dosage adjustment is required for patients with renal dysfunction. it should be used cautiously in elderly patients and those with cerebral atherosclerosis or cerebral circulation disorder. It should also be used cautiously in patients with epilepsy or spastic syndrome of unknown etiology.
Side Effects
The reported adverse effects of Orcipol include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pains, headaches, vertigo, sleep disturbances, cosinophilia, leucopenia, granulopenia, and changes in thrombocyte numbers. Allergic reactions may also be reported. Photosensitization may occur but is rare.
Drug Interactions
The co-administration of Orcipol with theophylline may result in increased plasma concentrations of theophylline due to competitive inhibition in the binding site of cytochrome P450. This can result in increased half-time and toxic action associated with theophylline.
Ornidazole potentiates the effect of indirect anticoagulants and increases the duration of vecuronium bromide effect. The co-administration of Orcipol with warfarin increases the risk of bleeding. Co-administration with antacids and drugs containing ions of Al, Zn, Fe and Mg may cause decreased absorption of ciprofloxacin. The dosage interval between these drugs should be not less than 4 hours.
Conclusion
Orcipol is a medication that combines ciprofloxacin and ornidazole, two antibiotics that work together to treat a variety of bacterial and protozoal infections. It is an effective treatment option for conditions such as urinary tract infections, respiratory infections, and sexually transmitted infections. However, it is important to note that Orcipol has some potential side effects and drug interactions that need to be considered before use.
Patients with renal dysfunction, cerebral circulation disorders, or epilepsy should use caution when taking it. In addition, the medication should not be used by patients who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or under the age of 15.
