Physical Description
Maxiclar Film Tablets are pale-colored, oblong, and notched. Each box contains 14 tablets, and each tablet contains 500 mg of clarithromycin.
Mechanism of Action
Maxiclar works by inhibiting microsomal protein synthesis in susceptible bacteria. It does this by binding to the 50S subunit of the bacterial ribosome. This action is effective against most gram-positive bacteria, Chlamydia, some gram-negative bacteria, and Mycoplasmas.
Indications
Maxiclar Film Tablet is used in adults and children over 12 years old for the treatment of various infections caused by certain microorganisms. These include:
- Upper respiratory tract infections such as pharyngitis (throat inflammation), tonsillitis (tonsil inflammation), and acute maxillary sinusitis (sinus inflammation).
- Lower respiratory tract infections such as acute bacterial exacerbation in chronic bronchitis and pneumonia.
- Uncomplicated skin and soft tissue infections caused by susceptible microorganisms.
- Infections caused by a special type of bacteria called Mycobacteria.
Additionally, Maxiclar Film Tablet is used for:
- Protection against infections caused by a type of Mycobacteria (Mycobacterium avium complex) in some AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome) patients.
- Reduction of duodenal ulcer recurrence by eradicating H. pylori bacteria.
- Treatment of dental infections.
How to Take it
- Check the Foil: Before taking a tablet, ensure that the foil is not broken. If it is, do not take that tablet.
- Dosage: For adults and children over 12 years of age, take 1 tablet 4 times daily.
- Method: Swallow the tablet with water.
- Children: Maxiclar Film Tablet should not be given to children under 12 years.

Precautions

Severe Acute Hypersensitivity Reactions: In the event of severe acute hypersensitivity reactions, such as anaphylaxis, Stevens-Johnson Syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis, or drug rash with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS), discontinue Maxiclar immediately.
Drug Interactions: Co-administration of it is known to inhibit CYP3A, and a drug primarily metabolized by CYP3A may be associated with elevations in drug concentrations that could increase or prolong both therapeutic and adverse effects.
Use in Specific Populations: Based on findings from animal studies, Maxiclar is not recommended for use in pregnant women except in clinical circumstances where no alternative therapy is appropriate.
Overdosage: Overdosage of this tablets can cause gastrointestinal symptoms such as abdominal pain, vomiting, nausea, and diarrhea.
Other Precautions: Before taking Maxiclar, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have a history of cholestatic jaundice/hepatic dysfunction with use of clarithromycin, or if you have renal or hepatic impairment and are taking colchicine, lomitapide, lovastatin, and simvastatin.
