Usage
Ateroz Film Tablet 20 Mg is primarily used for the following conditions:
- Primary hypercholesterolemia (heterozygous familial and nonfamilial)
- Mixed Dyslipidemia
- Homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia
- Hypertriglyceridemia
- Familial hypercholesterolemia
- Cardiovascular event prevention
- Primary dysbetalipoproteinemia
Dosage
The initial dose of Ateroz Film Tablet 20 Mg for adults is 10 or 20 mg once daily, which can be adjusted at 4-week intervals. The maximum daily dose is 80 mg.
For children aged 10-17 years with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia, the dose is 10 mg once daily, which can be increased at intervals of at least 4 weeks to a maximum of 20 mg/day.
Administration
Ateroz Film Tablet 20 Mg can be taken as a single dose at any time of the day, with or without food. However, it’s recommended to avoid excessive consumption of grapefruit juice (>1 L/day).
Contraindications
Ateroz Film Tablet 20 Mg is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity, active liver disease or unexplained persistent elevations of serum transaminase, porphyria, pregnancy, and lactation.
Precautions
Precautions should be taken in patients who consume substantial quantities of alcohol or have a history of liver disease. Patients with risk factors for myopathy or rhabdomyolysis should also take precautions. Hypothyroidism should be properly managed prior to starting statin therapy. Children under 10 years and premenarcheal females should also take precautions.

Common side effects include diarrhea, nasopharyngitis, arthralgia, insomnia, urinary tract infection, nausea, dyspepsia, increased transaminases, muscle spasms, musculoskeletal pain, myalgia, limb pain, and pharyngolaryngeal pain.
In rare cases, Ateroz may affect the skeletal muscle and cause myalgia, myositis, and myopathy that may progress to rhabdomyolysis, a potentially life-threatening condition characterized by markedly elevated creatine kinase levels.
