      Foscarnet is a medication used for induction and maintenance therapy of cytomegalovirus (CMV) retinitis in patients with AIDS. It is also indicated for the treatment of mucocutaneous Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV) infections that are clinically unresponsive to aciclovir in immunocompromised patients.

      It is a prescription-only medicine. Renal impairment is the major toxicity of Foscarnet Sodium Injection. Seizures, related to alterations in plasma minerals and electrolytes, have been associated with Foscarnet Sodium Injection treatment.       Common side effects of Foscarnet may include fever, flu-like symptoms, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, chest pain, back pain, or headache. Foscarnet can harm your kidneys. This effect is increased when you also use certain other medicines. Your kidney function and electrolytes (potassium, sodium, magnesium, phosphorus) will need to be tested often.
